As The Santa Barbara Independent reported, the three children of Goleta farming pioneers Jay and Kristen Ruskey have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against water heater manufacturer Navien, Inc. and homeowners Ben and Robin Korman. The complaint alleges that a faulty exhaust system and an inoperable carbon monoxide detector caused the fatal carbon monoxide poisoning of the Ruskeys during an overnight visit to a Cambria home on February 7, 2026. The suit seeks product liability and premises liability damages. Attorney David C. Shay represents the family.
