Goleta and Santa Barbara area high school tennis players secured Channel League titles on Tuesday in Santa Barbara, with San Marcos’ Tate Jaeger winning the singles championship and the Dos Pueblos duo of Zella Cassidy and Atria Husein claiming the doubles crown. These victories mark significant achievements for the local athletes, as both Jaeger and the Cassidy/Husein team will advance to the CIF-SS Individuals competition.

Tate Jaeger of San Marcos demonstrated commanding performance throughout the singles tournament. She secured the singles crown by defeating Dos Pueblos’ Adhya Reddy in the final match. Jaeger's path to the championship was characterized by significant control, as she dropped only four games across all six sets played during the tournament. Her victory in the final was the culmination of an undefeated Channel League season, where she maintained a dominant record against opponents, besting them 144-19 in games won. Both Jaeger and Reddy have earned spots to compete in the upcoming CIF-SS Individuals, representing their respective schools.

In the doubles championship, Zella Cassidy and Atria Husein of Dos Pueblos triumphed over Santa Barbara High’s Kate Hashbarger and Lucy Kronberg. The Dos Pueblos pair secured their title with a 6-4, 6-3 victory in the final matchup. Like their singles counterparts, both Cassidy and Husein, along with Hashbarger and Kronberg, will proceed to compete in the CIF-SS Individuals scheduled for November.

The Channel League individual championships also determined alternate spots for the CIF-SS Individuals. In the third-place doubles matchup, Santa Barbara High’s Sky O’Reilly and Ryan Briggs defeated a Ventura High pairing in straight sets, with scores of 6-1 and 6-3. This win positions O’Reilly and Briggs as the Channel League’s first doubles alternate for the CIF-SS Individuals.

The third-place singles battle featured an internal competition between Santa Barbara High teammates Keren Monroy and Hali Wight. Wight emerged victorious with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Monroy, thereby claiming the first singles alternate spot for the playoffs.

Across the two-day Channel League individual championships, Santa Barbara High demonstrated the top overall team performance. The Dons squad achieved a 15-7 record across both the singles and doubles tournaments, showcasing a strong presence in multiple events. Despite the success of local teams, Dos Pueblos tennis did not provide information regarding their overall performance or other details. The triumphs of Jaeger, Cassidy, and Husein highlight the competitive spirit and talent within the Channel League tennis programs, with several local athletes now looking towards further competition at the CIF-SS level later this year.
