Women’s Economic Ventures (WEV) hosted its annual League of Extraordinary Women Luncheon on October 7 at La Cumbre Country Club. The event gathered community members, philanthropists, and advocates to recognize National Give to Women & Girls Day and celebrate the collective generosity enabling WEV’s mission. The luncheon also underscored the significance of investing in women's economic futures, which organizers stated strengthens individuals, families, and communities through greater financial security and choices.

Since its establishment in 1991, WEV has been dedicated to ensuring women have access to essential education, training, financial resources, and support. This foundational work empowers women to shape their own futures, contributing to broader societal benefits. Nicki Parr, CEO of WEV, underscored this impact, describing WEV as "a community, a collective, a village … and a force for change." Parr further challenged attendees to consider individual autonomy, highlighting the independence women gain when equipped to make their own decisions.

During the luncheon, Kelly Mooney, founder/CEO of Equipt Women and chairperson of Giving List Women, was honored with the 2026 WEV Trailblazer Award. Mooney received recognition for her leadership and unwavering commitment to creating opportunities for other women. Organizers noted that her award reflected the spirit of the gathering, emphasizing that progress is achieved when individuals utilize their influence and resources to open doors for others.

The program featured WEV community members who shared their personal journeys, illustrating the lasting value of such investments. Jill Agonias, a former WEV client who has since become a League donor, and Sandra Iraheta, a midwife and WEV advisory client, both provided perspectives on the crucial role WEV's support played in their respective paths.

WEV’s League of Extraordinary Women serves as an annual giving circle, comprising approximately 180 women and men. Through their collective contributions, members support women’s economic empowerment. Organizers clarified that these investments are vital in making opportunities accessible to women who might otherwise face financial barriers, thereby creating more pathways toward financial stability and independence.

WEV extended thanks to the luncheon sponsors for their support. These included Presenting Sponsor Wells Fargo; Empower Sponsors Bank of America and Nicholson & Schwartz; Innovation Sponsor La Arcada; and Thriving Sponsors Amazon, Community West Bank, Farr, Johnen, & Associates, Montecito Bank & Trust, Nasif, Hicks, Harris & Co., Tileco, and Village Properties.
