The Goleta Valley Library’s "Writing the Next Chapter" capital campaign has successfully raised $1,225,033.95 since its launch in February, bringing it to 72.06% of its $1,700,000 goal. The campaign aims to secure the remaining funds to transform the library's interior with new furniture, modern seating, reservable study pods, and refreshed spaces.

Organizers confirmed that the funds will support upgraded furniture, new bookshelves, modern seating, reservable study pods, and refreshed spaces throughout the library. Elizabeth Saucedo, the city librarian, noted the profound impact of community support, stating that witnessing patrons’ commitment has been "simply incredible" and hearing their stories about the library’s significance has been a special experience.

The campaign is open to gifts of any amount. Donors who contribute within designated tiers can participate in a special Donor Recognition Program. This program features a hand-painted tile artwork installation planned for the south exterior wall of the library. The artwork will depict a natural scene, including monarch butterflies and eucalyptus leaves, and will incorporate a row of bright books to celebrate community literacy.

Names of donors contributing to specific tiers will be displayed on eight-inch porcelain tiles, though a limited quantity of these tiles remains available. Many Golden Tiles and Sunshine Tiles have already been purchased, leading organizers to encourage donations of $2,000 and above to help reach the campaign's final goal.

Contributions intended for the GVL Capital Campaign can be made through several channels: the Santa Barbara Foundation, Friends of the Goleta Valley Library, the City of Goleta, or in-person at Goleta Valley Library Express. Any of these options are valid for participating in the donor recognition program. Additionally, all gifts made to the campaign will receive special recognition separately from the donor wall, highlighting the community’s collective generosity.

The library is currently closed as it undergoes the Goleta Valley Library Americans with Disabilities Act, Safety, and Building Improvement Project. This construction project remains on schedule to meet the completion requirements of the Building Forward Grant, which serves as the primary funding source for these facility upgrades.

The Santa Barbara Foundation is the 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor for the "Writing the Next Chapter" campaign. In this role, the foundation receives all donations to the program and oversees the distribution of funds in line with the committee's intentions. All contributions to the campaign are tax deductible to the fullest extent permitted by law.
