The Isla Vista Recreation & Park District (IVRPD) is set to host its sixth annual Halloween Pumpkin Patch, transforming Anisq’Oyo’ Park into an illuminated wonderland. This immersive pumpkin patch experience is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 28-29, from 7-11 p.m., promising spooky delights and community engagement.
Attendees will be challenged to discover hidden clues about a legendary garden grove, whose ancient magic is key to ensuring the park’s future, according to IVRPD organizers. Costumed actors will enlist the help of community members, guiding them through a storyline filled with plot twists that will lead them to taking home a free pumpkin from the patch.
The event will also feature the return of the silent disco for both nights, located in Cool Corner near Embarcadero Hall. Supported by UCSB Associated Students Program Board, this free silent disco will include carnival games, a photo booth, and a 3D blacklight experience. The first night will showcase a performance by Wildfire Arts Entertainment, along with flash mob performances from World Dance for Humanity.
On the second night, Oct. 29, IVRPD will host a Costume Contest offering a grand prize of $750. Registration for the contest is available online and is limited to 60 entries. Participants are encouraged to arrive at 7 p.m. on Oct. 29 to check in at the Anisq’Oyo’ Park Amphitheater, with the contest slated to begin at 8 p.m.
IVRPD is hosting this Halloween Pumpkin Patch in collaboration with the Environment Makers, Flying Shade, and Fishbon. Miller Event Management will provide security services for the event, and Big Wave Dave is supplying the pumpkins. 2nd District Supervisor Laura Capps noted that "Events like this bring neighbors together to celebrate what makes Isla Vista so special," expressing gratitude to IVRPD for creating a welcoming space for families and students. Kimberly Kiefer, general manager, commented that the Halloween Pumpkin Patch is a "beloved Isla Vista tradition," commending the creativity and dedication of staff and partners.
IVRPD encourages guests to utilize alternative transportation when attending the Halloween Pumpkin Patch, such as bicycles, skateboards, foot, or bus. Direct bus routes to the park are available via Santa Barbara MTD Lines 11, 15x, 25x, and 27. Guests needing ADA accommodations can request them by emailing [email protected] or calling 805-968-2017.
Separately, a Día de Los Muertos event is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 6, from 5-8 p.m. at the St. George Youth Center, located at 889 Camino Del Sur in Isla Vista.
