The Santa Barbara Unified School District will host its district-wide High School Showcase on Wednesday, Nov. 4, giving local families an opportunity to examine academic pathways, career programs, and extracurricular options across multiple campuses. As The Santa Barbara Independent reported, the upcoming event is scheduled from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Earl Warren Showgrounds.

The showcase gathers specialized academies, career technical education pathways, and visual and performing arts programs from four district high schools: Dos Pueblos High School, San Marcos High School, Santa Barbara High School, and Alta Vista/La Cuesta high schools. Attendees will have the chance to meet directly with current high school teachers and students, ask questions about daily campus life, and learn how specific programs connect personal interests to future college and career trajectories.

Designed as a comprehensive resource for families planning the transition to secondary education, the event highlights a broad array of disciplines in a single location. Program exhibits will cover subjects ranging from engineering and health care to culinary arts, media, music, and theater. By centralizing these offerings at Earl Warren Showgrounds, the district aims to help prospective high school students and their parents clearly understand the full scope of available educational tracks before selecting a pathway.

To ensure students can make the most of the event, Santa Barbara Unified eighth graders will participate in dedicated daytime sessions during the regular school day. During these daytime hours, eighth-grade classes will visit the program exhibits, tour the facility, and speak directly with high school representatives and student ambassadors.

In the days leading up to the showcase, eighth-grade students across the district are participating in specialized classroom lessons designed to help them evaluate their own career interests. As part of this curriculum, each student receives a customized passport. This tool allows students to pre-map a personalized exploration route through the venue prior to their arrival at Earl Warren Showgrounds.

District organizers structured this targeted preparation process so that students can follow a clear, intentional path through the exhibit hall rather than wandering at random. After identifying their areas of interest during the daytime visits, students are encouraged to return with their parents and family members during the evening session from 5 to 7 p.m. to share their personalized findings and continue exploring district programs together.

While daytime attendance is reserved for eighth-grade classes, the evening session is open to all district families and members of the local community who wish to learn more about high school programming.
