As The Santa Barbara Independent reported, 84-year-old Lana Olivia Knor pleaded guilty to misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter in Santa Maria for an October 24, 2024, collision that killed 18-year-old Mason Anthony Rohwedder. Knor failed to yield the right-of-way in her vehicle.
Judge Bennett presided over the sentencing hearing where Knor received probation, agreed to surrender her driver's license, and agreed to pay restitution requested by the family. Rohwedder's relatives delivered victim impact statements during the proceeding.
Santa Barbara County District Attorney John Savrnoch told The Santa Barbara Independent that no criminal proceeding can reverse the tragedy.
